THE WORLD OF GOLF - CLOSED - Sporting Goods - 147 E 47th St, New York, NY - Phone Number
3 reviews of The World of Golf - CLOSED "The World of Golf isn''t the biggest or the best golf store in Manhattan but it''s not a bad place either. Prices are competitive and pretty standard so there''s no real fear of getting ripped off. They have a decent selection of golf clubs and gear and the saleman that helped me was nice. The second floor store is a little cramped and there wasn''t enough space to swing any of clubs but I heard they have a third floor simulator to swing some clubs if need be. On a side/personal note. I''ve been playing golf since I was 13, I played 4 years of varsity golf in high school, and though I don''t play much since moving to NYC 5 years ago I still get out once and awhile. I was playing this entire time with a $150 golf set my parents bought me from a department store when I was 13. If you''re not familiar with golf clubs or pricing, you should expect to pay in the neighborhood of $1,000 for an average setup. A set by the way doesn''t mean it all comes together. Typically you buy a set of irons, and everything else (putter, drivers, bag, ect...) is sold a la cart. I finally decided that better/newer clubs were in order but the fact that my $150 clubs weren''t letting me down or keeping me too far behind anyone else meant I didn''t want to pay $1,000+. After lots of research I found the best clubs for the least amount of money possible (that also came with everything you need) was the XL7000 set from Top Flite (who is owned by Callaway) for $300. It even comes with a couple hybrid clubs and a titanium driver. I looked up all the bigger golf stores in the city and none of the notable ones carried this set, that''s what brought me to World of Golf. I haven''t had a chance to use the clubs yet but they look great and I know that if something breaks within 2 years I''ll be covered (which is the same for nearly every golf club from what the salesman told me)"
