Hoping you are all well and have found your seat in the 1/9s and are sitting comfortably in the TPTV cinema as I write! There’s been good news and bad news this month. The St Albans Arena asked us to postpone our TPTV Festival of Film on Sunday 20th March 2022 due to essential building works still not being completed. We have contacted all ticket holders to advise you of the new date which is: Sunday 8th May 2022. Still at the Alban Arena, a super venue in the heart of historic St Albans. This is good news for a lot of you who couldn’t get tickets as we are no longer fully booked and it’s going to be a tremendous day. Thankfully, all the stars can make the new date, so it really will be quite an event. If you would like to join us, do contact us asap to buy tickets on Freephone 0808 178 8212; or HERE. We are really looking forward to meeting many of our supporters. Don’t forget there is a LIVE Cellar Club with a whole panel of Scream Queens, including Caroline Munro, Valerie Leon, Martine Beswick, Madeline Smith, Jenny Hanley and Judy Matheson; along with a LIVE FOOTAGE DETECTIVES with Mike Read and Noel on stage. The lost films are something very special this year. No spoilers but they are all great discoveries for Film History and you will all be the first to see them on the big screen for a long time…More sad news, as we lose our dear friends Jack Smethurst, Anna Karen and Hardy Kruger to the great cinema in the sky. We shall miss them terribly and our thoughts are with their family and friends at such a sad time.On the channel I’m pleased to announce that 95% of the programming is now available with optional subtitles for those who need them. This has been a long project and a hard task with no funds available to support it – so I’m exceptionally proud of what we have achieved, we realised how important it was to so many of you. Please do check your TV guides for the magic ‘S’ symbol. Our ‘Weekend by the Sea with TPTV’ at the Art Deco Cinema in Christchurch, is selling exceptionally well. There are only 500 odd seats available on either day so do book quickly. We are working hard behind the scenes to book special guests plus films. I can let you know that the brilliant Derren Nesbitt, (Special Branch, The Saint, Where Eagles Dare and many more), will be joining us there, so it’s already promising to be a great line up. The location is so lovely, you will all fall in love with the Regent – it’s a beautiful cinema. This month a special release for you DVD lovers: Hawkeye – Last of the Mohicans – fully restored with optional subtitles for those who need them. It’s a HUGE box set with 5 discs – and is a limited release so do grab yours quick. Lots of special offers this month, including a couple of products for St Patrick’s Day – Mitchell & Kenyon in Ireland and a toe-tapping collection of Irish music on CD. In memory of Hardy Kruger we have two compilations of war films, including The One That Got Away. Also two DVDs celebrating Elstree studios plus a beautiful signed book about Elstree. A reminder that a lot of these offers ONLY last till the 15th of the following month – so don’t delay! “Stop us and buy one!”Dust off your halos! Some great news for fans of THE SAINT – we have managed to transfer from the original elements the first, black and white, series of The Saint – the British spy thriller TV series that aired between 1962 and 1969, starring the ever elegant and suave Sir Roger Moore KBE. It’s coming to TPTV on Sunday 20th March at 6pm. It’s a real scoop for us, other channels only play the colour episodes, but you know how much we love black and white! Also, The Onedin Line will be coming to TPTV soon! Here are just some of this month’s premieres: Sea of Sand with Richard Attenborough and John Gregson; apocalyptic comedy The Bed Sitting Room with Peter Cook, Dudley Moore and a host of British comedy actors; Doctor in Trouble with Leslie Phillips and Hands of the Ripper starring Eric Porter and Angharad Rees. Take care, keep on spreading the word, and we will be back with you in April. NB: the next magazine will be a few days after the 15th due to Easter. Until then, keep flying the flag for TPTV!
