Love TUKTUKS
Tuk Tuks, Trains and Trails – A reight grand day out in t’ DalesStarting in Ilkley where you are greeted and served with a glass of limoncello or amaretto, we head up-dale on the delightful back-road via Nesfield and Beamsley, passing the prestigious Devonshire Arms Hotel before arriving at the magnificent ruins of Bolton Abbey. Here we stop for thirty minutes or so to allow you time to wander around the ruins and stroll along to the nearby riverside with its famous stepping stones and ice cream van! Then it’s a short 5 minute ride to Bolton Abbey Station, the eastern terminus of the Embsay & Bolton Abbey Steam Railway. We part company there and whilst you take the historic steam train through magical scenery, we pootle along to the western terminus at Embsay to meet you off the train. From Embsay, we climb to the summit of Barden Moor, pausing for a while to take in the dramatic views and enjoy a refreshing glass of Prosecco. There then follows a fabulous descent to rejoin Wharfedale at the historic Barden Tower where we cross the river over the ancient arched bridge and follow the meandering back-road to Appletreewick for lunch at The Craven Arms. After lunch we head up another lovely back-road with great views back over Burnsall, through Hebden and on to Grassington where again we give you time to look around this lovely little town and possibly partake in some retail therapy ! Another five-minute ride then brings us to the spectacular Linton Falls which are really worth a look at, particularly if the river is up and running fast. From Linton Falls we head back down-dale along the B6160, a lovely ride along woodland with stunning views of the river and the summit rocks of Simon’s Seat. The next stop enables you to walk the woodland trail to the Strid, a famous stretch of water where the River Wharfe is forced into a deep and narrow channel only a few feet wide. From the Strid, you continue your walk to the Cavendish Pavillion where you can enjoy afternoon tea and cakes. We meet you there and return to Ilkley via the scenic Beamsley Beacon road through a typical Dales upland landscape affording fabulous views up and down the valley.
