MetroCard and Walrus | Merseytravel
What is a MetroCard and is it different to a Walrus card? If you are buying a smartcard for the first time you will receive a new MetroCard. If you already have a Walrus card you will be able to continue to use it and benefit from the online features of the MetroSmart website until the card expires, at which point it will be replaced with a new MetroCard.

New ‘Metrocard’ travel scheme to replace Walrus card
A new MetroCard smart travel scheme is to replace the Liverpool City Region’s Walrus card. The new scheme, announced today (Weds 23rd October) by Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram, will be phased in from December, when Merseytravel’s adult daily, weekly and four-weekly Solo bus tickets will be available online for the first time.

The Apprentice Travelcard means young people enrolled in apprenticeships can get half price bus or train travel across Merseyside when buying weekly and four-weekly Solo tickets or weekly and monthly Railpass tickets.
