National trusts generally operate as private non-profit organizations. The first such trust organisation, The Trustees of Reservations, originated in 1890 as a regional group serving the state of Massachusetts, USA. The first national trust, the National Trust for Places of Historic Interest or Natural Beauty, was founded in England in 1895 and operates as a charitable organisation serving England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Other national trusts have since been set up around the world.

If the card is not used for a period of 96 consecutive months (8 years) it will expire and any remaining funds may be deducted from it. (Use for the purposes of this term includes balance enquiries)

Our gift cards make an ideal gift and can be redeemed in National Trust cafes, shops (including our online shop), and at admission points - for entry and membership. They can also be used for National Trust holidays when booked by phone and when you stay at a Historic House Hotel - Hartwell House, Bodysgallen Hall & Middlethorpe Hall. National Trust holidays include holiday cottages, bunkhouse & bothy stays plus selected campsites.
However the gift card is spent, every purchase made helps us look after nature, beauty and history, for everyone, for ever.
You can check your balance or expiry date of your gift card by visiting: www.showmybalance.com - Just enter the 16 digit card number and the PIN (found under the scratch off silver panel) in the Online Access Code area.

Your gift card will either expire 24 months after the date of issue or 24 months from the last transaction (which ever comes later). A transaction is a sale or a top up. Any remaining balance is cancelled on expiry. We reserve the right to amend terms and conditions of our gift cards at any time and take appropriate action, including cancellation of a card, if necessary, in return for an appropriate refund.
