NZWINEPRO™ – Auckland Wine Tours winery of the month for March is Villa Maria New ZealandVilla Maria Estate was the lifes work of Sir George Fistonich who started the business in 1961 at the tender age of 21. It grew to become a household name and the largest family owned wine business in New Zealand.Villa Maria was recently acquired by  Indevin New Zealand which has completed the purchase of 100% of the shares of Villa Maria Estate for an undisclosed fee. The sale includes Villa Maria’s Marlborough, Hawkes Bay and Auckland wineries, vineyards, supplier agreements, the flagship brand Villa Maria as well as Esk Valley, Vidal, Leftfield and Thornbury.We visit their spectacular Auckland Winery and Vineyard Park, nestled in a dormant Volcano just 10 mins from Auckland Domestic & International Airport.Across their extensive portfolio they have an impressive range of affordable and sought after red regional varietals and blends from Vineyards in Hawkes Bay. There are also several Pinot Noirs and whites like Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Riesling and Pinot Gris from Marlborough at the top of the South Island.They also produce in small batches some ultra premium wines that would be considered  amongst  the best in the world.The Auckland Ihimatao Barrel Fermented Chardonnay is one of my favourite wines.
